History
Established: Fall 2008
One of the trademarks of college campuses everywhere is a cappella music, and the Penn State University has an array of groups in all shapes and sizes. Many have been around for years, and because of their established standing and rare openings can be hard to get into. In Fall of 2008, Blue in the FACE a cappella was brought about out of this idea; the idea that there was still an untapped reservoir of musical ability beyond those who were already singing. And so, the love of music drew students together to form Penn State's newest coed group. Blue in the FACE quickly became more than a cookie cutter group, promoting the idea of being a "network of singers". Not only would music be performed and enjoyed as a whole group, but also as smaller interest groups (such as male and female sectionals and quartets). This fresh new outlook on college a cappella promoted FACE's love of music, and its willingness to share it through all genre's, styles, and outlets.
Performing with great groups on campus such as NOTA and Shades of Blue, FACE built its way up to its first premier solo concert in spring of 2009, bringing in Elizabethtown's "Vocalign" as a guest group. As the 09-10 school year progressed, FACE ignited a new relationship with THON in efforts to raise money for pediatric cancer, and continuing to evolve in its presence on campus and in the community. FACE has raised over $22,000 For The Kids since the start of its involvement with the world's largest run student philanthrophy.
Blue in the FACE recorded it's Debut Album in March 2010, and started selling it at the Spring 2010 concert. This album is currently on sale. Blue in the FACE will be recording its second album in January 2012.
If you love music and believe in enjoying, sharing and teaching it, then we'd love for you to come audition for an opening or just come listen to us at one of our many events.
